The Game that Unexpectedly Ended My Phone Addiction
This is not those focus app, study buddy, put your phone aside and it'll plant a tree for you game. Just a pretty normal idle game, called Idle Iktah.
The nature of it being an actual game makes it a lot more fun compared to the focus apps that is built around "keeping you focus". The key aspect that kept you focusing is reducing the speed of progress by half when you are offline, which is a negative reinforcement that kept you from switching to scrolling.
But what makes it different from all the idle games in the app store though?
The game doesn't have a fixed currency that can be used for everything, so everything is resource gathering, crafting, and management. The fact that you have to switch what you are doing in the game occasionally to stop crafting all your wood into a ring or needing to switch to mining makes it much less enticing to switch screens. It's not just earning money when you're offline, it keep doing what it is doing and will mine you a thousand iron when you unlocked gold after the first hundred.
I think the game design developing with progression makes it much more attractive than your usual focus apps, so if you're interested, definitely give it a try. You also progress slow at the start which will keep you... focused.
